The Milk Run is no more, as Butterfield has been named the new title sponsor of the Father's Day Guernsey Half Marathon, replacing the Guernsey Dairy.
This year marks the event's 20th anniversary, and the first that Butterfield are sponsoring.
“We’re aware that Butterfield is a major employer in the island and very active in the community. We look forward to working with them over the coming years to support and further enhance this event. Last year, over 600 runners took part so we are pleased to have secured a significant sponsor for an event with such a high level of participation and involvement, predominantly locals,” said Louise Perrio, Endurance Director for Guernsey Athletics Club.
The popular event has been renamed The Butterfield Half Marathon, following discussions with the Guernsey Athletics Club. Previously known as “The Milk Run”, the event's popularity has grown and now often reaches the maximum entry level. Guernsey Dairy said it was keen to find a trusted, new sponsor to carry the baton for this well-established event.
The General Manager of the Guernsey Dairy, Andrew Tabel, said: “The race is a major event in the local sporting and social calendar for thousands of people. The atmosphere along the route and at the finish is fantastic with family and friends supporting runners every step of the way. We are heartened to know that the event will continue its prominence under Butterfield and will offer our support to them and the Guernsey Athletics Club to ensure a seamless transition. We wish Butterfield and Guernsey Athletics every success for the future and look forward to seeing the half marathon continue for many years to come."
Richard Saunders, Butterfield’s Managing Director, Channel Islands and UK, added: "We are eager and excited to begin our sponsorship of the half marathon with the Guernsey Athletics Club.
“Sport is an integral part of Guernsey life and we are committed to supporting and celebrating the events that matter to our community. We will be encouraging our employees to get involved, volunteer on the day and we hope some will even lace up their trainers and participate."
