JT has partnered with Sky Mobile to help protect customers from fraud.

JT’s Fraud Protection Services and Sky Mobile will help UK banks’ detection systems to query network information and provide an extra level to customers against SIM swap fraud.

Criminals use SIM swap fraud to gain access to bank accounts by hijacking one-time pass codes sent to mobile phones.

JT’s system can carry out a background check to verify whether a SIM has been swapped on the customer’s phone and prevent identity theft.

The Head of Fraud Protection Services at JT, Clare Messenger, said SIM swap fraud can see a customer lose £2,500 on average.

“JT’s Fraud Protection Services provide an extra level of security when customers are making payments or using other sensitive information,” she said.

“Our platform takes away the complexity of using multiple arrangements with mobile operators to create a single system to quickly verify transactions.”

JT International Managing Direction Paul Taylor said the covid-19 pandemic is a factor in increasing fraud.

“The pandemic transformed our world in so many ways and one of those was increasing our reliance on using mobile phones to access the internet as part of our everyday lives,” he said.

“Fraudsters saw opportunities to use sophisticated techniques to target system vulnerabilities and we have been working hard to provide the necessary extra layers of protection to identify and prevent potential fraud.”
