Largest private lender sees investment growth in local property

The Channel Islands' leading private bank lender in the property market says real estate in the islands is increasingly attractive for local and international investors.

Jane Niles, Head of Real Estate at Investec, believes that the islands' stability and their status as offshore finance centres supported by world class professional services are the main attractions for investors seeking enhanced yields and strong tenancies in the property market.

Writing in Property Week, Ms Niles said: "Demand in all aspects of the market has been high and the investment opportunity is increasingly attracting attention.

"Both the quality and innovative nature of the projects Investec has funded demonstrate that developers and real estate investors alike believe in the underlying resilience of the economies and property markets in Guernsey and Jersey."

In 2021, Investec team had a record year in loan volumes, providing investment and development finance for Channel Islands and UK real estate. 

For the past two years, Investec has topped the table of private bank lending in the Channel Islands to property developers and investors and for private mortgages.

It was recently named as Private Bank of the Year in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man at the 2022 Citywealth IFC Awards.
