A dementia care home has gone green with the installation of a new solar PV system.

Moira Boyd, Care Manager and Director of GreenAcres Specialist Dementia Care Home, said she was delighted to have made the switch.

“It will provide us with locally generated solar PV electricity for our care home and residents. We wish to play an active part in decarbonising our business activities and we look forward to introducing further initiatives in future.”

The solar array has been installed by the Little Green Energy Company.

"This week marks the completion of the installation of over one Megawatt of solar photo voltaic systems supplied and/or installed across the Bailiwick over the last eight years by our business," said CEO Bob Beebe.

"With the Guernsey Energy Policy agreed by the States of Deliberation, this is a clear indication of how our island is adapting to a future of on-island distributed electricity generation options."

The company has also installed a total of 0.5 Megawatt-hour (500kWh of storage capacity) of Tesla Powerwall battery storage systems across the island over the same period.

“In the UK, the Tesla Energy Plan system has connected hundreds of systems together as part of Tesla’s UK virtual power plant and has been very successful in managing Demand Side Response," said Chief Technical Officer Jamie Clark.

"In essence, this helps to balance electricity across a network, reducing stress at peak times."
