GFA sponsorship deal renewed

Monday 16 September 2019

Deloitte Guernsey has renewed its sponsorship agreement with the Guernsey Football Association for another season.

The sponsorship helps facilitate the Association’s work with the island’s schoolchildren and supports the annual Deloitte Corbet Cup and Corbet Shield. This season will see six teams compete in the Cup and nine teams in the Shield competition.

The professional services firm has supported the GFA for 14 consecutive years and is the Association’s official community partner. It helps fund the GFA’s community activity programme which gives local school children the opportunity to engage in football.

The renewed partnership agreement means the GFA can deliver primary school PE lessons for years five and six. The team also runs after-school clubs for years three and four and a special girls-only club for years one and two.

The 2018/19 academic year saw 245 hours of primary school-aged delivery by GFA community staff, with over 850 children attending football sessions.

As well as football, the community partnership has delivered the first Active Literacy sessions in Guernsey. Active Literacy aims to support the development of fundamental movement skills and speaking and listening skills in girls aged five to eight years old.

David Becker, Partner at Deloitte, said: "Helping more young people enjoy sport has been a cause close to our hearts for a long time. The work that the GFA does in schools through the community programme has grown again this year, and we are proud to play a small part in making that happen."

"As a charitable organisation, the long-term support of Deloitte has been invaluable for the GFA in enabling an expanded community delivery programme, which has not only introduced more children to the sport but assisted in promoting the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle with young children," said Gary Roberts, Chief Executive Officer of the GFA.

"We are both grateful and delighted to be continuing our partnership, providing the best possible community programme for local children."
