Guernsey Electricity is looking to recruit industry specialists as Non-Executive Directors following the approval of the island's Electricity Strategy.

GEL said it wants to "identify individuals with relevant industry experience to join the board and help steer the business forward".

Specifically, the company is looking for candidates who can work with the existing board of directors on developing further customer experience and major investment financing.

Candidates qualified to MBA or IoD Chartered Director level – who would provide independent oversight, evaluative challenge and constructive critique to Guernsey Electricity’s strategic direction – are encouraged to apply.

Peter Shaefer, Chair of Guernsey Electricity, said: “It is a pivotal time for the energy industry locally and for Guernsey Electricity in particular, as we set out to deliver on the Energy Policy and ensure we pursue the right strategy in a fair and equitable way.

“We are looking for high calibre candidates with proven experience of working at a senior level, preferably in the utilities industry. They will need to demonstrate an interest and understanding of Guernsey’s Energy Policy, the transition challenges of moving towards alternative operating models and the complexities of sustainability/environmental issues.”

Mr Shaefer added: “The energy businesses of the future will need to provide services in an affordable and environmentally conscious manner, taking advantage of innovative technology and providing the right level of customer experience. These recruits would help us take a leading role in the energy transition to ensure the outcomes are in the best interests of energy consumers, and the long-term future of our Island.”
