Funds success for Imperium

Monday 05 September 2022

Celebrating its second year in business, Imperium said it is pleased to have contributed 'a number of firsts' to Guernsey's wider Funds sector.

The island currently has record numbers of investment funds domiciled locally, with statistics from the Guernsey Financial Services Commission showing that at the end of December 2021 the net asset value of Guernsey funds stood at £303.6bn. The number of funds domiciled in Guernsey is at its highest level in almost a decade at 855 funds.

Imperium, launched in 2020 as the first new fund administrator in Guernsey for a number of years.

After launching the business as a “greenfield” (no transfer clients or staff) it now employs 12 people, has over £715m of assets under administration and works with 15 client groups.

The fund services firm was established with the support of the Imperium Group, a provider of trust and corporate services firm in Guernsey for over ten years.

Following regulatory approval in early September 2020, Imperium funds has been active in the mid-market private equity space in the Guernsey, the UK and Europe. Providing a flexible, client focused approach with a Guernsey based operational team the company’s independent position and experience has been well received in the market.

Imperium Funds’ Managing Director, Barry McClay said: "We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone in our growth journey. We felt there was a need for a client-focused, independent fund administrator in Guernsey and we are working with a fantastic client base and intermediaries. I’m really proud of where we stand today but we are still very much at the beginning of our journey.

"Our growth has enabled us to triple our staff numbers on island since January which has a significant positive impact on the local economy. I’m also extremely pleased that in our first two years of business we have been able to achieve a number of firsts in Guernsey’s funds sector including launching the first regulated medicinal cannabis fund, the first registered fund to be listed on the Aquis stock exchange, and our Imperium NED Club."
