Former easyJet director joins Blue Islands board

Friday 07 June 2019

A former easyJet UK director and Chief Commercial Officer of Flybe, Malaysia Airlines and Cobalt Air, Paul Simmons, has joined the Blue Islands board as a non-executive director.

Mr Simmons spent seven years with easyJet, initially as Group Head of Marketing and Distribution; and for the last five years as UK director.

Commenting on his appointment, he said: “Blue Islands has continually developed its route network, aircraft fleet and passenger numbers in a commercially viable way, it’s exciting to be part of this ambitious and passionate team. I look forward to drawing on my experience to benefit Blue Islands and its customers.”

Rob Veron, CEO Blue Islands, added: “A consummate aviation executive with a strong understanding of regional aviation markets – we’re delighted to welcome Paul to the Blue Islands board. Paul brings a wealth of experience, further strengthening the board as we continue to grow an independent and sustainable regional airline committed to serving the Channel Islands.”

“With three new routes this summer and a new ground handling operation about to commence, Paul joins Blue Islands at an exciting stage as we seek further development opportunities.”

Blue Islands has just launched its third new service for 2019, connecting Guernsey and Jersey to Cornwall Airport Newquay this summer.

Flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer season until 31 August 2019, starting in Guernsey with a short stop in Jersey allowing passengers to board the aircraft before continuing to Cornwall Airport Newquay.

Mr Veron said: “Whether it’s Channel Islanders enjoying all that Cornwall has to offer including Michelin star dining, the incredible back drop for the hit TV series Poldark and of course the pretty Cornish harbours, or residents of Cornwall looking to experience our beautiful Channel Islands, we look forward to welcoming our customers on board this summer.”
