ESI Monitor has appointed Dr Michaela Byrom as a sustainability analyst.

Dr Byrom has been working with ESI for several months on a project basis and has now joined as a permanent member of the team to capture data and provide analysis for ESI Monitor’s sustainability assessment framework clients.

Previously a resulting officer with the States of Guernsey’s Public Health Department, Dr Byrom assisted with the analysis of testing data collected to combat the covid pandemic.

Dr Byrom has also worked for Island Analysis as their head of research and with Guernsey Sea Farms where she was responsible for hatchery sustainability and biosecurity of the operation. She holds a PhD in microbiology and industrial biotechnology.

Director of Standards and Operations, Ian Corder, said Dr Byrom's expertise was “a great fit” for the team.

“Data analysis is critical in establishing accurate and effective benchmarking on sustainability. Inaccurate data collection and processing can result in a false picture of progress against green goals,” said Mr Corder.

“Michaela will be working with our clients to ensure they have the tools they need to effectively collect and manage their own data, making the assessment process easier and more effective.”

The company has also expanded its UK team, appointing Nathan McOwen as digital lead, Marta Toborek as sustainability analyst and Matas Ziemys as business development executive.

Two academic specialists have also joined the team to undertake research on sustainability in the corporate space. PhD student Thuy Nguyen joins the team as research analyst and is supported by Zahra Abdul-Malik, who is on a placement scheme as part of her master’s degree.
