Three Guernsey students have spent their summer coding a concept customer portal for First Central, as part of the Digital Greenhouse's Discover Digital Internship programme.
The scheme gives students, who are passionate about digital technology, with practical experience in local companies.
Emma Torode, Thomas Harvey and Grainne Wrigley, who were interns at First Central for six weeks, have been working on the portal for the company's UK motor insurance broker, 1st Central. The concept portal project could help customers look at information about ongoing claims.
"Our interns are always keen to learn and contribute towards current future projects," said Development Manager at the company. Dan Edmunds. "To code the portal, they have been using a combination of JavaScript, HTML and CSS and several other different pieces of software. programmes and coding languages.
"We want all our interns to be creative and innovative during their time with us, we want them to think creatively and let them design something new. We were very impressed by the standard of knowledge and enthusiasm of the students - they made a huge contribution to our team and we are proud to be part of their educational journey and hope they all go on to find their ideal career path working with technology."
Miss Torode added: "The past six weeks have flown by. The team here at First Central has taught me so much. It's great learning on the job rather than in a classroom - you have the ability to implement what you've learnt into real projects instantly."
Mikey Chammings, who started off as a digital intern and now has a future permanent position with the company as Associate Developer, has been guiding the students.
