Dave Fishwick to visit Guernsey

Tuesday 21 March 2023

The man behind the 'Bank of Dave' will be guest speaker at the Chamber of Commerce Gala Dinner in November, where he'll share stories of his work to change the banking industry.

Dave Fishwick was a van and minibus dealer before changing career path. Over the past decade he has been credited with reforming the UK's banking systems by forcing changes to regulations.

A Netflix film about him was released earlier this year.

Described as an "expert on entrepreneurship, business and finance" Mr Fishwick "will be offering valuable lessons for island businesses both large and small".

Mr Fishwick said: "Just as we emerged from the pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis hit with full force, forcing business owners to grapple with supply chain issues, rising prices and dampened consumer demand. But despite the doom and gloom, there is still opportunity, ideas and potential.

"I'm a firm believer in supporting your local community, backing yourself and getting people together to achieve great things. Small businesses are the cornerstones of our communities and we need to support them especially in these tough times. I'm really looking forward to the event, and I hope that my advice and experience will be both valuable to help you succeed, but also entreating and inspiring."

Diane de Garis, President of the Chamber of Commerce is excited about the upcoming visit with tickets for the Gala Dinner available through Eventbrite.

"I'm so pleased to be hosting Dave as our speaker for the event. His views on supporting his local community and businesses so strongly align with the ethos of the Chamber and we're really looking forward to the event. We are also grateful to Sure as sponsor."

CEO of Sure, Alastair Beak is also looking forward to the event.

"At Sure we recognise the value of connections and are looking forward to seeing new and old friends at the dinner, as well as hearing Dave's story of how one person can make a huge difference to many more lives."
