Condor Ferries has donated £1,500 to the Guernsey Sailing Trust to keep budding young sailors warm and dry when they head out on the water.

The company's community fund bought 15 waterproof coastal sailing jackets which can be used by children from age six to 16.

"As a ferry company we have a natural affinity with the sea and are very pleased to be able to support the Guernsey Sailing Trust and their efforts to teach local children how to sail," said Condor's Community Officer Tracy Peters.

Guernsey Sailing Trust's General Manager, Sarah Creasey added: "We see approximately 2,000 school children every year, the vast majority of whom are sailing for the very first time. The jackets donated by Condor will be predominantly used on our Hawk 20 keelboats and ensure we can keep the youngsters properly equipped for the sea, so we are most grateful."

The Condor Community Fund was established earlier this year and is designed to support local people who give up their time to develop community activities. So far it has received 83 applications from across the islands with a focus on sustainability, local benefit and enjoyment for others.
