Sports Commission teams up with business for Utmost fun

Monday 10 August 2020

The Guernsey Sports Commission and Utmost Worldwide are joining forces once again to provide a free Family Fun Day at Saumarez Park later this month.

The event runs from 12:00 to 16:00 this Saturday and will offer a variety of free sports taster sessions and other activities for families to get involved in, whatever their age or ability.

Activities on offer include football, walking football, Gaelic football, cricket, fencing, golf, sailing, squash, petanque, athletics, boxing, badminton and hockey. There will be sports coaches and volunteers on hand to help people of all fitness levels make the most of the sessions.

“The day offers the perfect opportunity for islanders to try something new in a relaxed, non-competitive environment," said Jenny Murphy, Sports Development Officer for the Guernsey Sports Commission.

"Last year we saw over 500 people come down and get involved. We anticipate it’ll be busier this year as parents will be looking for fun and free ways to entertain the kids during summer.  As always, we hope that it will encourage people of every age to embrace a new sport or activity that will help keep them fit and healthy.

"All the sports activities are free of charge and the day promises to be a fun and healthy way for families to spend a few hours together.”

There will also be an Island Games stall, where attendees can learn about the Guernsey Island Games Team and some of the Games’ traditions, such as the significance behind the water carriers.

Darcy the Donkey, the Guernsey Island Games Team official mascot, will also be making an appearance and trying her hand at some of the activities on offer.

Leon Steyn, Chief Executive Officer for Utmost Worldwide in Guernsey, said the company was pleased to get behind the event through its ongoing sponsorship and bursary scheme for the Guernsey Island Games Team.

“Family Fun Days have proved a tremendous success over the last few years and we are very pleased that Utmost Worldwide’s support is having such a lasting impact. Children and adults are able to try something new and then hopefully continue to enjoy the benefits that an active lifestyle can bring."
