CIPR annual forum to discuss corporate purpose

Tuesday 20 August 2019

Corporate purpose, the value of social responsibility and the role of PR professionals will be up for debate at this year's flagship event for the communications industry.

The Channel Islands group of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations has secured four visiting speakers for the event, including Global Head of Citizenship at KPMG International, Lord Dr Hastings of Scarisbrick CBE.

"The success of business is no longer simply measured by its size and profitability," said group Chairman, William Church. "They need to consider their role in and impact on their local community and the wider world. As communication, marketing and PR professionals we are often involved in a business' reputation and its social responsibility. We believe it is one of the most topical subject facing business and our community today, which is why we have chosen it as the theme of this year's forum.

"The forum has built a reputation over the years of debating issues which our members and the industry are dealing with on a daily basis. We are delighted to have secured such experienced and inspirational speakers."

The event, which will take place on 12 September, is open to all. Organisers believe this year's topic will have particular resonance with those who work in the communications industry as well as in-house marketing teams, HR, internal communications and corporate community programmes.

Lord Hastings will open the afternoon with a talk about purposeful profit, asking why sustainability and CSR matter, and what they mean for businesses that want to succeed.

CIPR President, Emma Leech will then take over, looking at the role of the communications professional and CSR, and how to maintain a positive reputation.

Among the other speakers is Global Head of Social Innovation and UK&I Head of Corporate Responsibility at Experian, Richard Donovan who will talk about communications on a large scale. Then Founder of the Comms Hive, Chair of the CIPR Inside and Internal Communications Specialist, Advita Patel will focus on what CSR means for employees and how to overcome internal apathy.

The forum will run from 12:15 until 17:00 at the Digital Greenhouse, allowing Jersey delegates time to travel between the islands in one day.

It is worth ten CPD points for CIPR members.

Delegates have the opportunity to join the speakers for dinner after the forum, and tickets can be bought via Eventbrite.
