Co-Op and Perelle Butchers have made a donation to the Sarah Groves Foundation from the sale of their produce at the Viaer Marchi this summer.

The Sarah Groves Foundation said it has "gratefully received a donation of £1,250 from the combined efforts of the Channel Islands Cooperative Society and Perelle Butchery, which raised the money on their stall at this year’s Viaer Marchi".

Perelle Butchery maintains a counter at the Co-Op’s Grand Marché in St Martin and is run by husband-and-wife team Tony and Sarah Fiore.

The couple worked with the Co-Op’s store manager Paul Gontier to sell a wide range of meats and rolls from their stand at the Viaer Marchi. This included burgers, sausages, and two types of chicken which were gobbled up by the hungry masses.

The trio decided that The Sarah Groves Foundation was the obvious candidate to make good use of the money raised.

Mr Fiore said: “The Sarah Groves Foundation is a fantastic cause that goes out of its way to help young people in Guernsey. We are proud to do our bit towards supporting this great local charity and improving the lives of children in the island.”

24-year-old Sarah was murdered in Kashmir, India in 2013. The Sarah Groves Foundation was formed as a not-for-profit, charitable trust with the aim of fulfilling her ambitions in life - namely to enhance the lives of young people, especially of those less fortunate than herself.

The Foundation uses donations as well as money raised through fundraising to celebrate Sarah’s mission in life through four core values: children, art, fitness, and adventure. The funds donated will go towards improving the lives of young people in Guernsey through a variety of projects.

Vic Groves, Managing Trustee of the Sarah Groves Foundation, said: “We are humbled and flattered that Perelle Butchery and the Co-Op thought of us for this generous support. The Foundation can only do our great work through the generosity of our fellow islanders. We want to thank Tony, Sarah, and Paul for their kind donation, which is gratefully received”.
