Businesses asked to embrace Customer Service Week

Monday 05 October 2020

A focus on customer service is "more important than ever" and should be at the top of every business' agenda, service leaders will tell a Chamber of Commerce lunch tomorrow.

National Customer Service Week is running from 5 to 8 October and aims to encourage businesses to consider the experience they are providing to customers.

The Chamber of Commerce is hosting a free lunchtime event tomorrow where businesses can hear from service leaders about the simplicity of customer service and the importance of great leadership.

Speakers include Jill Clark from local consultancy Customer-Excellence and Jim Coupe, Managing Director of Skipton International, who will both be sharing their insights.

As businesses adjust to a new way of working and, in some sectors, are employing new and potentially inexperienced team members, Ms Clark fears that standards may have fallen.

“It’s been a really tough six months for everyone and in some cases, we have seen customer service take a low priority as businesses have focused attention on other urgent areas of the business.

"Now is the time for the customer to be top of the agenda again.”

Mr Coupe said customer service "is not something that’s nice to have", it should be a priority.

“Customer service is literally part of our DNA. It’s part of every conversation we have. The service profit chain is infallibly there – where we know empowering our people to deliver great service creates real tangible results."

“Skipton has a very passionate team that takes our collective culture forward. Service is our passion, but being the Managing Director is about empowering and enabling my colleagues around me to deliver amazing service whether they are in marketing, IT, on the phones, or working in the back office. That’s our focus now and for the future.”

The Customer Service lunch & learn is on Tuesday 6 October at the Market Street Chamber HQ from 12.30.  Free tickets for the event can be booked via the Chamber of Commerce website and on Eventbrite.
