Business support payments increase

Wednesday 08 April 2020

More than half a million pounds has been paid out to date in support of local businesses affected by the corona virus pandemic.

States of Guernsey Chief Executive Paul Whitfield gave the update on take-up to the various schemes the States has set up to support businesses who have been forced to halt operations because of the impact of covid-19.

“We have now paid around 500,000 in business support,” said Mr Whitfield.

“If you are a business that needs help, and that hasn’t yet applied, please go to gov.gg/coronavirus again for details of how to apply. If you have put in an application, but not received funding, please bear with us while we work through this process and be assured that all available resources are working on this.

“Daily calls and emails to the team administering the hardship fund continue to be in the thousands. Again, we are here to support you and will deal with these enquiries as quickly as we can.”

Despite the support in place, which also includes an offer to help fund staff wages, it has not saved all companies, with Paul Davis Freight one of the most high profile victims so far.
