Appleby launches data protection guide

Thursday 09 July 2020

Appleby has launched an Offshore Data Protection Guide, giving a detailed overview of the privacy and cybersecurity regimes in eight of the world's leading offshore jurisdictions - including Guernsey.

The guide offers businesses quick answers to some of the most critical issues related to data protection.

In addition to outlining local data protection frameworks, the guide provides regulatory information on everything from collecting personal information and obtaining valid consent to law enforcement and international transfers of personal data.

“The global evolution of regulation and the meteoric rise of technology, together with cybersecurity concerns and obligations imposed by international data sharing regimes such as FATCA, make the protection and use of personal data more complex than ever before,” said Appleby Partner, Richard Field. “We have developed this guide to make critical information easily accessible for business leaders and to help them navigate these challenges.”

The company's global privacy and information management team - headed by Mr Field and Peter Colegate - has practical experience advising clients on pan-jurisdiction data protection matters on a global basis, including the interaction between local legislation and GDPR.

Appleby’s Data Protection Guide currently includes Guernsey, the British Virgin Islands, Cayman, Bermuda, the Isle of Man, Jersey, Mauritius and the Seychelles, and can be read in full here.
