Representatives from Alderney's online gambling industry will be "promoting the stability that the island represents in the face of Brexit" to more than 30,000 delegates at the "ICE Totally Gaming" conference in London over the next few days.
ICE which is described as "the world’s largest gambling technology event" is taking place from today, 6 February, until Thursday 8 February at the ExCeL, London.
Marc Lainé, managing director of C5 Alliance, Guernsey division, will be one of those manning the Team Alderney stand along with his colleague account manager Adrian Bott.
“It’s a massive event and it’s a market that’s growing globally. ICE is an opportunity to catch up with clients and meet prospective clients. The whole industry attends,” Mr Lainé said.
“We will be there to represent Alderney Gambling as well as C5. Alderney is a primary place to be licensed and to host eGambling services, particularly in an uncertain time regarding Brexit. We don’t know what it’s going to mean for some of our competitors but Alderney is a safer bet as its position remains unchanged. It has never been in the EU or EEA therefore it is unaffected by a hard or soft Brexit. It’s safe and reliable with top tier licensing. I would be nervous about some of the other locations.”

Mr Lainé said that while the eGambling industry was mature there was still a lot of growth to be seen. It was also a sector populated by a relatively young community and there was a need to educate the market about Alderney in what has grown to be such a competitive market.
“The benefits of being licensed by the AGCC means that businesses will not only be licensed and regulated in Alderney but will want to establish their servers and hosting here. C5 doesn’t just host, we design, build, procure, patch, maintain and monitor their systems so we are a full service house and that’s almost unique amongst data centres and offers a unique incubation service for businesses relocating to the island, which many well-renowned businesses have found invaluable.
“It also gives our technicians exciting projects to work on for clients in Australia and further afield, producing systems that are being accessed by hundreds of thousands of people. The level of technological complexity is high. It helps develop our skills which has a positive trickle-down effect for the rest of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.”
