£60k donation to Les Bourgs

Les Bourgs Hospice will be better able to match any public sector pay increase for its nursing team thanks to a £60,000 donation by Julius Baer.

The donation has been made as part of the firm's 30th anniversary celebrations and will help with the hospice’s ongoing running costs, including giving its nurses a pay rise in line with the one the States gives its staff.

This year the Hospice is forecasting a funding requirement of £1.4m to continue delivering free specialist care to any resident of the Bailiwick suffering from a life-limiting illness.

“The support from Julius Baer and the incredible amount their team has raised in celebration of their 30th year could not come at a better time for us," said Les Bourgs Director Jo Boyd. "The team and I are exceedingly grateful to the bank and its staff for their generosity and fundraising efforts to meet their target.”

The Julius Baer team raised £30,767.51 through individual initiatives and team efforts such as Ian Brown’s 30 Rides in 30 Days Challenge, which the firm sponsored.

The bank agreed to match its staff’s fundraising efforts as part of the Guernsey office’s celebrations.

Stephen Burt, Branch Manager at Julius Baer in Guernsey, said: “We’re proud to be able to support this great, local cause which provides fantastic services to countless islanders and their families. Special mention must go to our social committee and Derek Beatty, who worked tirelessly to come up with ever-more inventive and successful ways to raise funds and meet our £30,000 target.

“Our staff embraced the challenge and we’re pleased to be able to help Les Bourgs as a result of their energy and enthusiasm.”
